Welcome to The Friendly Yeti!

If you’ve found your way here via Jacey Stitches, thank you for taking the time to come to my new blog.

You may be asking yourself, why the name change? Well, there are a couple of reasons. I will try to be brief, but hopefully I can give you an idea why I have made the change and what it means for my blog and business.

Over the last two years, as I have been selling items and trying to create a small business for myself, I have struggled to find my unique identity. You see, in the crochet and knit world, there are several sites that have words liked Stitches, Stitched, Yarn, Crochet, Knit, With Love, Loops, etc. You get my point. I have nothing against those sites and business names, but I wanted something unique to me. While Jacey Stitches was working, I didn’t feel it best represented me. Ironic, given that my name was in the title.

Part of finding my identity has been finding what I love to create. Finding my art, if you will. Over the years I have been willing to make just about anything. If the customer has a wish, I have done everything I can to fulfill that. I began to notice that some items really sparked my creative imagination; while others were fun, they somehow just weren’t doing it for me. Do you know what I mean? It wasn’t until I found Freshstitches and tried out some of her designs that I figured out what it is that I love to do. Making toys! I got my start with making hats, cowls, dishcloths and coffee cozies, but toys are where my creative passion lies. They bring me such joy to make and give to people. I hope that enthusiasm comes across in this blog.

Finally, I felt like I had a problem on my hand. My main inspiration and source of several patterns is Freshstitches. Stacey Trock, the owner and designer behind Freshstitches, is a kind, generous and amazing person! I don’t want to intrude on the awesome platform that she has developed, and while I had established Jacey Stitches before I started using her patterns, it just didn’t feel right to me. Again, I also wanted something that fits me.

So after a painful brainstorming session with my husband– painful because I feel silly trying to come up with crazy ideas, while he is a pro at being a goof– we came up with my new business name. The Friendly Yeti. I still smile whenever I think about it, and my hope is that it conveys what I want my products to be. Fun. Whimsical. Adventurous. Fantastical. You know, everything that you might imagine a Friendly Yeti to be. :)

So after deciding on this new, silly, crazy idea, I went about sketching and coming up with my very own mascot. Another thing that I have been wanting to do is to create a watermark for my pictures, hopefully a tag to attach to my items and custom business cards. I have taken the first step towards doing that by designing a mascot and I couldn’t be more excited.

I’m sure that as I go, things may change slightly. The mascot itself will develop and grow. I can see many wonderful things in the future for it. I think change is a natural course for anything that is growing and thriving. Afterall, crochet is my art, and I never want to be stagnant with it.

So with that, I present to you The Friendly Yeti. I hope you love it as much as I do.
