WIP Wednesday 7

Hello everyone! I have a couple of things to share with you, so I will get right to it.

I crochet a lot. I would say probably 95% of the time (not an actual scientific measurement) I am making something for someone else; customers, friends, family, etc. I like to try to always have at least one personal project running at all times. It helps keep my creative juices flowing and gives me an opportunity to do something that I wouldn’t normally do. Right now, I have embarked on shawl knitting. I have been oogling the many beautiful shawls that have been popping up on Ravelry this past winter, and really wishing I had one of my own. For Christmas, I was given a gift card to a local yarn store here in town, so I went and bought some really pretty yarn and a set of circular needles!

This is by far the fanciest and nicest yarn I have ever purchased. It’s Cascade Heritage sock yarn, made up of 75% wool and 25% nylon. Oh so silky soft. You can imagine my excitement and that I started right away on my shawl!

Nope.

I waited. Almost 3 months! To be perfectly honest, I was scared of starting. Scared that I would somehow ruin the yarn, or not be able to knit the shawl. Crochet? No problem! Knitting … I’m not the best. But, I knew I had to start somewhere, and eventually got up the courage to start.

Here’s what happened:

I know. Bleh. So I frogged and started again. And again. And again! I must have restarted this shawl 6 or 7 times, which may or may not have involved pulling of my hair, gnashing of my teeth, grumbling, screaming and throwing the yarn setting the yarn down gently and taking deep breaths. But I persevered, and the pattern finally clicked. The biggest issue I was having was tensioning my yarn. The yarn is so thin and slippery, that I had to try out several different ways of wrapping it around my fingers before I finally found something that worked.

Much better! My Trillian scarf is officially and happily underway and I have a nice mindless knitting project that I can work on now. I couldn’t be more thrilled!

In designing news, I am working on a new pattern! It is my first amigurumi pattern. Want a peak?

 

Can you guess what it is? You got it, Olaf, from Frozen! We have been a bit obsessed with the movie here, so much so that just last night my husband asked me if I could please not let the kids watch Frozen during the day sometime, so he can watch it with them again at night. He is so cute!

That’s not even the best news. This pattern will be completely free. So keep an eye out here for the pattern release. It might not be for another week or two, as I still have a lot to figure out. (That face?) But I’ll get there.
